Bathroom Redo: Part II

As you can see, I had a nice little playlist to keep me going while painting into the midnight hour. What you don't see is the obscene amount of Lady Gaga songs that were on that list. She's my not so guilt pleasure. We're getting closer and closer. Part III will be the final reveal...so stay tuned!

Bathroom Redo: Part I

This month has brought with it a little break in between photo shoots, so around our house that means we can kick it into high gear with home improvements. Up on deck: the hall bathroom. Back when Kent and I first bought our house, the first thing I said was the bathroom needs a facelift, like yesterday. Fastforward 3 years and we are finally ready to take the leap.
First up, head to Lowes. Get a toilet, sink, lights, tile. We're done, right? Oh my goodness no! I just wanted to decorate this stupid bathroom. Who knew we had to buy half of Lowes to put down tile flooring. Also, did you know that faucets are sometimes more than the actual sink. It's a pyramid scheme I say! Plus, this project takes longer than a day. Ugh, I needed a break. So, I headed to Anthropologie (swoon) for some inspiration and retail therapy while Kent helped rip up the old carpet and tile. Did I mention this bathroom was half tile half carpeted.

When I started discussing my decorating ideas with Kent, he blindsided me with his opinions and vetos. What the heck? It turns out, he's got some strong opinions and we don't always see eye to eye on things like this. Enter compromise. Couples: If you're considering any sort of renovation on your home, be warned...it can be a stresser. Talk of a shower curtain can start innocently enough, and then all of a sudden...BAM you're in a 15 minute fight about taste level!

So, this is the current state of the bathroom. Carpet ripped up, tile is half down (not grouted yet), wallpaper border is down (kill me), toilet and towel holders are knocked down and spackled. Stay tuned for part II, paint goes up, more tile goes down!

Scenes from a vacation

Hi friends.
I'll be back next week with a preview of the wedding I'm shooting this weekend!

Happy Birthday

He's 28 today.
I call him Special K.
I'm dying to throw a surprise party for him. He would hate it.
It looks like we'll celebrate tonight with a mini LOST marathon.
Kent, I love you and I'm so glad that you're my husband.

Before & After

You may not know this about me, but I'm obsessed with DIY. I can't help it. I scour thrift stores and the side of the road like a ninja! I found this gem at Habitat for Humanity. After some haggling (from Special K) and convincing the clerk, that no, I don't need 4 chairs to go along with the stool, it was mine! I cleaned this mother with fire. Seriously, with fire. I had to take a match to a few spots that I just couldn't get to.

When I saw the fabric, I had to have it. It's adding a little extra oomph to the kitchen. I can just see myself sitting on it when there are not enough chairs to go around...maybe even standing on it to reach the out of reach.

4 years and...

counting! 4 years ago today, I convinced this guy to marry me! I love him. He loves me. We have a dog named Heidi. She wasn't in the wedding and I wish she was! So tonight, unfortunately/fortunately we get to celebrate by watching football. I really love sports. Like, a lot. Sarcasm? I love that too. But, not as much as Special K.

Kent, let's grow up more, make a kid or 2, make our dream home and encourage each other with Christ-like love. Okay?

Psst...Special K, don't you think Cosmos Pizza sounds delish?

What Christmas looked like...

My favorite ornament.

Kent & I cooked a turkey! We are officially grown ups.

We played a rousing game of cranium and let the dogs do the dice rolling. See that guy in the blue? He's getting married this Friday! Photos of that coming soon...

This is what I looked like midnight on Christmas Eve: crafting at the kitchen table with a feather headband and a hello kitty t-shirt on. No, I'm not 12 years old. My nephew with his new umbrella watching Cinderella. I think he consumed around 6 dinner rolls on Christmas!

The cook!

4 is the new 3

This little one should look familiar. My nephew, Walker recently turned 4 and we celebrated pirate style!

Walker has no problem telling you what he thinks and that is what I LOVE about him. His current obsessions seem to be: Peter Pan, swords, light sabers and his Nenna. I so look forward to watching him guide his cousins* in the right and humorous direction!

I love you my favorite nephew. Me and your Uncle Kent can't wait to take you on fun trips and adventures!

*Walker has more than one pair of uncles and aunts. Don't get the wrong idea!

Henry.

This is Henry. For frequent viewers of this blog and my website, he should look quite familiar. I am Henry's nanny. Today is this little boy's 2nd birthday! I can't believe it. He has mastered running away from "pooky" things, counting to 10, reading all 26 letters & being awesome.

You may remember from last year, his Batman themed party. This year is Thomas the tank engine, and believe me, you do not want to go up against Henry in a Thomas trivia game. You will lose my friend. Since I won't be able to be there to celebrate this year, I wanted to wish him a happy blog-birthday. (He's a frequent follower)

I love him. He sometimes loves me. Happy Birthday dear Henry. I hope to be there to watch you grow and out smart us all!

Love,
"Car Car"

The wrong side of my 20's

1989

6th birthday skating party

ballerina theme

unfortunate haircut

kickin' outfit (if I do say so)

I'm 26. On the later side of my 20's. The wrong side of my 20's. But, it's okay. My husband told me I looked 23 and my mom gave me a snuggie. Snuggie=my new guiltiest pleasure!

All's quiet on the blog front

Here is the reason it's been a little post light these days. I'm painting our bedroom. Ah, it's been a 2 year battle with Special K in convincing him of this.

The upside: I get to wake up to non-farm like green color.
The downside: I'm painting this room all by myself. My hands hurt already! And, yes, your eyes do not deceive you, those ceilings are vaulted.

I'll be back soon to show you the finished product which will include some of the Ikea loot I got over the weekend.

Next post: Julia & Griffin

Eye Candy

That is just the best way to describe these two. Wonderful, eye candy!
Hope the weekend treats everyone well. I look forward to NOT watching 10 straight hours of football this Saturday. Man, that was just torture.

A triptych

Ah, genuine emotion. It's nice to see. I'll strive forever to be as inconspicuous as possible just so I can get this. This little boy is Collins. I promise he wears clothes. You'll see more of him in the next few weeks.

In the spirit of triptychs, I thought I'd share one of random thoughts.

Cd's on heavy rotation:
Garden State Soundtrack
John Mayer-Heavier Things
Nickel Creek-Nickel Creek
Daniel Martin Moore-Stray Age

Guilty Pleasures:
Celebrity gossip blogs
Incessantly discussing baby names
I will watch anything on Bravo...anything!
11:00pm bowls of cereal
Obsessions:
1. Ikea
2. Flipping Out (see guilty pleasure #3)
3. Catchphrase
4. Ovaltine (I'm 90 years old at heart)
5. Flats
6. Nerd glasses

*Post Edit:
Apparently, the "incessantly discussing baby names" has become a small controversy. Just in case there was any confusion...I just love talking about my likes/dislikes of certain names. I am not preparing my own baby's name. I don't have a baby!

This weekend

was full of *fabric, sleeping in, unfortunate migraines, thrift stores, Mad Men, blizzards, Inglorious Basterds, Watchmen, Freaks & Geeks, special k hugs and blog stalking.
*My newly covered dining room chairs!

about that trip...

There were messy Popsicles.
Bear skin rugs and bromances. FYI, I loath the term "bromance", I just felt it appropriate.
Relaxing with Special K. To see both of us trying to maneuver onto that hammock was pure comedy.
My friend Stephanie and I were knighted with new nicknames. It's the summer of Patty & Spirit.
And there was sweet, little chubby cheeks.

I took a trip this weekend...

Wanna see it? I'll be back later today to show ya.

Better Late...

than never. Nothing like posting a weekend recap on a Thursday! File this post under late and random. I thought I'd start the weekend off by photographing our living room. I needed a fresh pair of eyes to look at it through. Photographers, can I get an amen to that idea? So, here you have it. Also, a gratuitous shot of my new flats. A girl can never have too many.My little brother graduated from UA on Saturday. Way to go...welcome to working for a living.
On a side note, it was nice to see the campus for the first time since yours truly graduated in 2005. Roll Tide!

Here's my mom looking good.
Obviously, my brother's censored act is too much for my dad to handle. Nothing like getting the bird while taking someones photo!

Henry. No words needed. Just oh's and ah's.
